Regional Participants of the NGI Forum jointly hosted by CIMC and ENB Provincial Governement at Rapopo Plantation Resort in Kokopo
The two-day NGI Regional Development Forum hosted by the CIMC in partnership with East New Britain Provincial Government commenced yesterday 25th of March, 2026 with a closer look at the much-discussed PNG Reset@50 (which contains the 20-Year Roadmap,) and the leading question, "what must we do better in the next 50 Years?"
To mark the country's 50th Independence last year, the government with Cabinet's approval appointed a team of local development and academic experts, high-profile government officials, technical experts including key organisations such as CIMC, NRI including critical partners in the development sector and tasked them to do a review of the 50 years of country's development. A national steering committee was established to oversee the team of experts in identifying issues and challenges affecting implementation of national goals, and the lessons learnt. And leaning on the PNG Constitution's National Goals and Directive Principles, PNG Vision 2050 and the MTDP goals and development aspirations, the team were further tasked to draft the 20 Year Roadmap to guide development in the next two decades.
The unpacking of the development goals and targets captured in the Reset@50's 20 Year Roadmap in Rabaul yesterday, was led by the team from the delivery unit from the Prime Minister's Department.
Mr. Charles Abel, Director of the Delivery Unit within the Department of Prime Minister and NEC, emphasized the need for mindset change and recalibration at all levels of government. The discussion covered various challenges including governance issues, law and order problems, economic development, and the need for better coordination between government agencies. Participants also reviewed the Reset at 50 policy document, which includes five principles and ten "big bets" for improving governance and development outcomes.
